Parents will develop an understanding of the relationship they have with their young person. They will enhance their ability to understand themselves and their teenager better, along with developing the skills to communicate more effectively.

The Content

  • What are relationships? Attachment concepts, continuing bonds, role modelling, boundaries.
  • Understanding behaviour and needs – yours and theirs (Choice Theory Work).
  • Emotions, why we have them and their complexity. The impact of trauma and stress on the Window of Tolerance (Trauma informed and emotional theory informed work)
  • Communication – listening, understanding, replying
  • Self-Care, re-cap and further resources.

Meet the trainer

Frankie Brown

Frankie holds a Masters in Pluralistic Counselling and Psychotherapy along with a Diploma in Supervision and Professional L9 Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Her main interest is in working with adolescents and strengthening the parent-adolescent relationship, where necessary and possible. Along with having a thriving private practice and having lectured in counselling and psychotherapy, Frankie moved to work in a secondary school, teaching students and their teachers about mental health and wellbeing. She is a mother of two children herself and a dog-mother to a naughty Beagle.
